Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a guiding principle for all aspects of Shaped Outcomes’ work. We also offer specific programs in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

Mindfulness is “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally to the unfolding of experience moment to moment (Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2003, p.145).”

The practice of mindfulness enables you to work with life’s challenges with greater equanimity and to choose what is sustaining to yourself and others. By paying attention to the present moment, observing your sensations, emotions and thoughts with curiosity and without judgement, you cultivate the ability to respond with lucidity. Rather than react out of an habitual pattern, dwell on the past or worry about the future, mindfulness enables you to focus on the present moment with flexibility and creativity.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
“Mindfulness meditation is a consciousness discipline revolving around a particular way of paying attention in one’s life. It can be most simply described as the intentional cultivation of non-judgemental moment-to-moment awareness (Jon Kabat-Zinn, 2003, p.1).”

Di completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Practicum training with Openground in 2009. She is committed to her personal practice, which includes retreat experience and her daily practice of mindfulness meditation and Feldenkrais awareness through movement. Brian completed the eight-week MBSR training with Openground in 2010 and has also cultivated a daily mindfulness practice.

Shaped Outcomes offers 8-week MBSR courses for individuals and can tailor a program for your workplace or organisation as part of your organisational development and staff well-being programs. MBSR has the ability to enhance emotional intelligence and reduce stress, thereby improving decision-making and workplace relations.
